A Web Design Fairytale – If you build it they will come.

Remember the movie “Field of Dreams”?

Well if you don’t, or you have blocked it from your consciousness.  It is about a corn farmer in the American South West who turns his field into a baseball diamond, complete with dug outs and bleachers so baseball playing ghosts can get together for one last big game.

The hook line for the movie was “If you build it they will come….” As if this field of dreams has the power to beckon all these spirits to one place.

Now this obviously is pure fantasy but some web designers sell this idea to their business clients.  One designer even offers it as a slogan for his webdesign business.  Unfortunately this creates a false sense that once a website is created customers will start breaking down the door. 

Yes a properly designed, developed and promoted website can dramatically increase your business interest.

Case in point Dove House of Regina saw a 5000 percent increase in web traffic after we redesigned their website within the first month of going online.  Their personal care home business went from a 60 percent vacancy to a 0 percent vacancy within that same period.  One year later and they are still going strong with wait times into the next four to six months.

Building a website and hoping people find it does not work.

The internet is a massive network made up of millions of computers.  Your website is one out of many billion of other websites competing for your customer’s attention.  No matter how nice your website looks – if no one can it no one is ever going to see it.
